The famous quote which states that the world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page resonates heavily with award-winning Pelu Awofeso, Author, foremost Travel Journalist, Publishing Entrepreneur and Environmental Activist.

For over ten years Pelu has been traversing the length and breadth of Nigeria, documenting his experiences and observations about the people and cultures encountered, and publishing these travelogues in media within Nigeria and beyond, as well as in his personal travel books.

The reward for his efforts? A life of constant excitement, national and international recognition and overall fulfilment.

Pelu whose passion for promoting Nigeria’s abundant tourism assets has seen him work as a tourism development officer, has had his articles published in print across the world such as World Policy Journal, Travel Intelligence, Africa Today, The Guardian, amongst many others. In 2010, he won the tourism category of the CNN Multichoice African Journalist Award for his travel writing.

When not on the road, one of Pelu’s many other projects includes publishing his print and online travel magazine Waka-About a travel-based newsletter circulating fun and factual stories about people, places and leisure pursuits in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond, as well as guidebooks to Nigeria and anthologies of international travel writing by Nigerians.

He also runs his publishing outfit, Homestead Enterprises, which is responsible for promoting Tour of Duty (2010), his third published book as an author, and @TravelNextDoor, a social media driven initiative aimed at promoting low-budget, short-distance travel to destinations and attractions within Nigeria.

The environmentally-conscious Pelu is also responsible for Beach Samaritans Project, a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a mission to make beaches in Nigeria litter free.

His regular dispatches from the road and updates on his works can be followed on Twitter and Facebook where he constantly shares photos of his travels and everyday life in Nigeria.
