Hey guys! sometime last week, we advertised a career fair organised by DCC job bureau (https://www.instagram.com/jobbureaudcc/) titled; ‘Overcoming Career Challenges’.
For those of you who couldn’t attend due to reasons beyond your control, here are excerpts from the fair;
Two exceptional speakers were invited to speak on key issues that directly affected young working class citizens in Nigeria.
Mr. Sam Nwaze – Chief Investment Officer Heirs Holdings, opened the floor. He spoke to an audience of about 350 young people, on the topic; ‘Choosing and determining your career’.
The second speaker, Olatunde Samuel Ipaye, also captivated the audience as he gave a detailed presentation on ‘Employability Skills’, where he discussed key considerations for employability which include;
- Defining your personal brand
- Developing a range of core skills
- Understanding yourself and others
- Developing a diverse network
- Defining your career path
- Updating your personal brand
A panel discussion was also set up to provide answers to some daunting questions in the minds of the early stage talents in Nigeria. Among the panellists were Premo Ojokojo, Sam Ajiboyede, and Gbenga Otutoye.
Key points noted from this session include;
- Take ownership of your choice of career and build yourself
- There is an advantage in working in a small company
- No knowledge is a bad one
- Work hard and your career will evolve
- Be joyful in your search.
Other activities for the day included;
Career counselling sessions, CV critique and review sessions, job interviews with companies like Wakanow, Jobberman, Syngenta, ARM investments, Ngex, letshego, Accion Microfinance bank, Andela, Universal Career, Kwik errands, vision edge.
Did we mention that there were also testimonials from individuals who successfully badged job placements through previous sessions of the career fair? Ok we just did…lol
