GP: Describe yourself in a sentence?
KL: I am a passionate Nigerian woman who refuses to give up simply because there are stumbling blocks.
GP: What do you do?
KL: I am co-founder at OmoAlata. An indigenous company working hard to become Nigeria’s leading food processor.
GP: Very unique. How did you start out?
KL: I graduated in 2006 with a B.Sc. in Computer Science. I also studied Strategic Business IT at postgraduate level. After NYSC, I worked in the IT department of Virgin Nigeria for over 4 years. In 2012, OmoAlata was born out of a need to eat healthy while reducing the amount of time needed to make a Nigerian meal.
GP: So cool! What will you say are the highlights of your career so far?
KL: I worked as an IT Service Engineer, Project coordinator & Business/Process Analyst for functional roles in Virgin Nigeria for over four years. I have also been a project team lead in an IT Projects Company, Taytom Group. I have attended several entrepreneurial training programs focused on leadership and business management. I am the Vice President of the 2014 LCCI Entrepreneurship Mentoring Program. In 2015, I emerged as the winner of the SLA Entrepreneur Pitch Competition. I was a TFA nominee for the Business Entrepreneur of the Year 2016. I was also listed among Forbes 30 most promising young entrepreneurs in Africa, in 2016. I am currently studying on scholarship at the Pan Atlantic University.
GP: Wow! Quite impressive. What does your job entail?
KL: I am currently responsible for the daily running of OmoAlata’s business operations with partial responsibility for the sales/marketing and the distribution teams.
GP: What are the key requirements to excelling in your line of work?
KL: Attention to details, Ability to self-motivate, discipline, passion and perseverance.
GP: What advice do you have for those who want to follow in your footsteps?
KL: a) NEVER underestimate yourself, ALL solutions lie within YOU. Take a deep breath, open your mind and the answers will come forth. b) Keep at it. Only the consistent will become champions.
